SIMON BRITT

Mr. Simon Britt was able to share nearly one hundred years worth of perspective for this project. As a ninety-eight year old native of Campbellton, he has seen the changes of his community take place all around him. Mr. Britt lost his parents at a young age, but was able to learn farming skills from family members as a young teen. He spent most of his life working his over 100 acres of farmland, and has grown a variety of produce such as corn, pecans, snap peas, and soybeans. He attributes his lifelong success at farming to not borrowing money and only paying for what was absolutely essential.

During his childhood when he was not working during the week, he was playing in the community for the local baseball team. These baseball teams would play on Saturdays against other local Legacy Communities in the area. Now in his quieter years, Mr. Britt still owns his farm and has a home filled with family photos. After all these years of living in the same area, the main thing he wants to see in his community is a local grocery store since the closest grocer is in Marianna.
